Wine cap mushrooms fruiting!

We like to actually try out methods we recommend, so now we’re happy to say that the mushroom spawn we’ve been recommending between mulch layers DOES in fact pay off with more than just nutrient availability and some pest control. The beds we innoculated with wine cap/garden giant (Stropharia rugosoannulata) last fall have started fruiting! And we used way less sawdust spawn per sq ft than was recommended.

Sometimes you need to be patient and think of mushroom beds like perennial food crops, because they are. The fact that the mycelium isn’t visible definitely makes the waiting harder.

If you like what I’m doing here and want to make sure I can keep doing it, please consider supporting these projects financially. It sucks, but until capitalism isn’t a thing there are bills to pay.
